Fuzzy Boundary

Fuzzy Boundary

The social pressure is closely linked to the development of the world of online entertainment, which people rely on to imagine as an untethered utopian world, an escape from reality. The development of the network is an inevitable trend, over-indulgence in the world of online entertainment will make people gradually lose the ability to communicate face-to-face, dialogue disappears, but people are real people, can not fully live in the virtual world, what is the boundary between virtual and reality, can we use the form of separation space to blur the boundary between reality and virtual  entertainment, rebuild the offline virtual and real entertainment space, the virtual network world and the real world link.

Site, 133 Sauchiehall Street is close to any of the transportation stops and cultural buildings in the city center, and it is possible to reach any area of the city center in a short time by foot. The street is divided into two sections, the eastern section is pedestrian-only, and I think the pedestrian shopping street in the city center is an effective means of ensuring the prosperity and safety of the city center. The street itself is planned with landscape street trees and rest platforms, so I added outdoor waiting seating to interact with the environment.

After theoretical research, I came up with the design concept of the scheme – blurring the boundaries between the virtual and the real. Based on this concept and keyword, I wanted to create a banquet hall that could host entertainment activities such as dining, conversation, and dancing, as well as a spectacle experience, so that people could return to real entertainment and enhance people-to-people communication.

After entering the space, the banquet experience is opened under the leadership of the front desk service staff, the corridor and the banquet area are separated by curtains, and when the curtains are opened, the corridor and the banquet area form a whole, giving other functions to form a banquet activity area, which can be used for performances or dancing and other activities, enriching people’s banquet experience and increasing the level of space.

The walls of the corridor are decorated, using common materials to simulate the feeling of reality, people often feel that dark colors will have a depressing feeling, like invisible social pressure, so the color is mainly dark, which contrasts with the banquet hall that represents the virtual space, but it is not really depressing, so as mentioned in the previous case study, try to add color in the dark space. In order to better immerse people in this special banquet, small cabinets are set up on the wall to store mobile phones, so that people will pay more attention to the present moment and promote dialogue.

The virtual space is untouchable, and it does not have a shadow like the real world, but it can be unpredictable, and different colors can be projected on the basis of white, producing changes and bringing people a sense of wonder. Therefore, the virtual space represented by the banquet hall is mainly white, forming a strong chiaroscuro contrast with the corridor, and creating a virtual atmosphere with the cooperation of projection and lighting.

The ceiling uses translucent fabrics and shaped decorations to create a spectacle, blurring the scale of the space and creating an unreal feeling. When the curtains open, the boundaries between the virtual and the real blur.
