My concept was called " Inside a Cloud". My focus was to design a clinic space that provides a break and encourages to focus on healing. The space has calm atmosphere and curved walls and objects create a soft interior. I also wanted to provide a little something different; A cloud like structure made from fabric and optic fibres floats above the reception area. A serene and surreal atmosphere will provide a break from hectic everyday life.

I wanted to demonstrate a sense of movement in the confinements of the given site, which was greatly influenced by Gaudi’s Casa Batllo. I wanted to capture the sense of calm and intrigue I felt when I visited this particular Gaudi work. What intrigued me was the variating shapes of the shadows cast throughout the space. Soft lighting was used to emphasise the structures natural flowing form. This had inspired me greatly to consider thresholds and the juxtaposition of the space.

The idea of 'vessel within vessel' was the start of my project.
I consider the space of the clinic as a 'human body', which contains different parts, work together closely and cooperate with each other. This is expressed in the spaces circulation. Inspired by the work of Richard Serra and the natural flow formed by human body, I came up with the idea of building up curvy lines in the space. I focused on clear space planning and material usage, so as to maximise the function of every part in the clinic and allow patients to escape from their busy life and truly relax in the space.

A focal point in my design process was to reduce angular corners and regular lines. Establishing fluid forms within the space to emphasise relaxation in all areas of the Sports Injury Clinic. A challenge was to retain natural light in the consultation rooms and gym area whilst maintaining privacy. I overcame this using a simple slatted wall that obstructs the view, breaking the line of sight between public and private areas.

Spatial allocation and zoning became a very important factor for me within this space. How the space became a healing environment and recovery place was of great interest. How this process was developed into an actual form and then how this allows people to use the space as a comfortable, relaxing environment.

As a treatment and rehabilitation centre, this Clinic has a specific clientele which must feel comfortable to work towards recovery. A gentle yet energizing colour palette, and soft linearity puts the patient at ease. Small private areas are interspersed within larger public spaces, increasing the sense of security, while small design details facilitate movement and privacy. I designed both a shelving unit and the treatment rooms which facilitate the treatment process and adapt to both patients and staff easily.
